Automatic Energy Optimization, AEO
One of the main reasons why variable frequency
drives are used in HVAC systems is to maximize energy savings.
While the drive and fan or pump maintain a high
level of efficiency at reduced speeds, the efficiency of the
motor drops off as it becomes unloaded. A number of drive
designs have attempted to improve the low speed efficiency of
motors. Unfortunately, most of these techniques require tedious
manual adjustment and still fail to optimize the motorís
efficiency under all conditions.
The VLTģ 6000 has a
unique control feature called Automatic Energy Optimization
(AEO) which allows the drive to automatically maximize the
motorís efficiency under all operating conditions. This
section will examine the reason for the reduction of motor
efficiency at light loads and the method that AEO uses to
counteract this natural tendency. The application and
limitations of this function will also be studied.
