operation of the smoke extract system can be simplified by using
drives with axial fans that can be reversed. Additional dedicated
fans are no longer required to operate the system, as the systemís
main supply fan is now capable of carrying out the same function.
In the new design, the
supply fan is sized for its smoke extract duty. This typically means
oversizing the fan by about 30%. This allows the supply fan to cope
with the extra air extraction requirements without the need for
additional fans. Under
normal operation, the drive automatically compensates for the
oversizing of the fan without increasing energy consumption.
During smoke extract operation, the driveís normal operation is
switched to its smoke mode by a simple digital input.
The speed is controlled by either the central emergency
control or directly by sensors.
