Application Description
All multi-story buildings have stairwells that serve for routine building access as well as an emergency exit path in the event of fire. In order to provide a smoke free evacuation path during a fire situation, smoke movement must be controlled. Stairwell pressurization by mechanical fans is the preferred method to limit or prevent smoke movement into the stairwell. Pressurized, smoke-free stairwells also provide a staging area for fire fighting personnel. Without a smoke control strategy, stairwells frequently fill with smoke during a fire thereby blocking or inhibiting evacuation. Smoke causes the most deaths in building fires. More...
