recommend minimum filtration rates for public swimming pools. These
filtration rates are intended to ensure proper standards of hygiene.
To comply with these government regulations, the filtration and
circulation pumps must be capable of pumping a required volume of
water in the worst case scenario i.e.when the filters are clogged.
When the filters are new, their resistance is very low, so excessive
amounts of water are circulated through the pool. The filters then
experience a period of high wear until they become clogged and the
flow rate they experience decreases toward design conditions. Due to
the issues of public safety, it is frequently found that these pumps
have been significantly oversized.
