Residual Current Devices
Residual Current Devices (RCDs) also called Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (ELCBs) are often used in installations (wet rooms, construction sites) where the environment presents an increased risk to personnel of electrical hazards or where there is a fire hazard i. e.in farms and storage buildings.

The use of frequency converters in conjunction with some types of RCDs may cause the RCD to malfunction. Either the RCD is too sensitive and will trip without real cause or the sensitivity may be reduced, which results in reduced protection.

If there is a necessity to use an RCD,  it is recommended that type B (which is able to detect several forms of fault currents) be  as distinct from the lower classes A and AC which only detect the most basic fault currents
